HPC simulations take a relatively small set of data and run it through a model and create an absolutely enormous dataset that comprises the simulation. AI models take an absolutely enormous dataset and run it through machine learning neural networks to boil all of that data down to a model that can be used to infer the nature of any new data poured into it. Building a file system that can do both – and have data accessible to both HPC and AI applications at the same time – is a tricky business.
